When Jesus said this on the cross he was quoting scripture once again. This is the beginning of
psalm 22 which starts with David proclaiming
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? and then details the torment of David which parallels what the Jews did to Jesus on the cross. Jesus gave the Jews a scripture that only they would know so they would understand what they had done to him as they did to David.

David in Psalm 22
39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
“But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”
14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
35 And they crucified him,
16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
35 and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

The amazing precision of God shown in the words of David just over 600 years before Christ was born showing exactly what would be done to Jesus. Jesus quoted this scripture to prove the accuracy of God and the supernatural nature of his word.
