I hear people listening to preachers quoting the words of Jesus then being told by people living in sin that these are not the words of their Jesus. Their Jesus accepts them as they are and welcomes their sin because God is love.
How do you ignore the words of Jesus himself so you can define your "own personal Jesus" to fit your lifestyle? The way we know people is from their actions (their fruit) and from their words. God gave us the bible (all of it not just john 3:16) so we could get to know him ... really know him. Their is only one Jesus and he is THE TRUTH, THE LIFE and THE WAY and no one comes to the Father but by him .... not your invention of him.
God is love but God is also just and he will carry out the punishment for our sin and that is why God should be feared. He will not forgive those who do not repent. We have all loved someone who broke our hearts and even when we forgive them they continue in their wrong doing because we enable them due to our weakness but God is not weak. Even though he loves us and takes no pleasure in destruction of the sinner he will do what justice requires.
You do not have your own Jesus, their is only one Jesus and you by your own choices make him your judge if you won't let him be your savior. Get off the broad path filled with people who have "their Jesus" and get to know the Jesus because he, by his own words, is the only one who leads to salvation all others lead straight to hell.
God didn't give us his word in a hallmark card. He is more complex than John 3:16 and you should get to know him via his word ... all of it.
